WORKING REMOTELY WITH IRLABS

irlabs is proud to be a fully remote employer. With employees established from coast to coast, our team is committed to delivering successes for our clients across multiple roles, focuses and time zones. Although there is geographical distance between our teams, we feel a strong sense of connectedness and community. From balancing our personal time and reducing our carbon footprint, to caregiving for our families or managing health conditions, there’s a lot that our team loves about being able to work remotely. In fact, 61% of people working from home are doing so because they want to, even though their office is open according to a 2022 Pew Research report.

We asked the irlabs team what they enjoy about working remotely, here is what they had to say and some of the ways we stay connected:

Commuting can have costly effects on the environment and on your wallet for gas or other transportation expenses. I like waking up to take a morning walk with my dogs and jump on to my computer after without the morning hassles of getting to an office. I have an AVM in my leg and being able to work from home has helped me tremendously. I have unpredictable flare ups that are sometimes so bad, I am unable to get around. Working remotely, I feel I have gained my health back as I have the comforts of home when I am not feeling 100% and still able to work comfortably. I love that I am able to work from anywhere with a reliable internet connection! I love going to Vancouver Island to spend time with my family.

— Jessica Cannon, Head of Operations, People and Culture

Working from home has been a game-changer for me! It has given me the flexibility and freedom to create a work environment that is comfortable and tailored to my needs. The lack of a commute has saved me so much time, money, and stress. Working from home has allowed me to have a better work-life balance, as I can spend more time with friends and have time to pursue my personal interests and hobbies. I am also able to work not just at home but from my favourite cafe, in another city, or at our CoWork location (which has the coolest coffee machine that I love using). The biggest benefit is having my fluffy co-worker, my cat, Sushi, that always sits on my desk encouraging me as I work!

As someone who has been working from home for a while now, I must admit it can get monotonous. So when I realized my colleague who lived in Toronto was keen to do a house swap with me, I was all for it! Swapping homes for a couple of weeks was the change of pace I needed. Immersing myself in a foreign place was not only exciting but inspiring. The change to my regular programming acted as the restart I needed to set the tone for the new year ahead. I loved exploring Toronto and all it had to offer. A change of environment can do wonders!

— Karryn Tapsas, Investor Relations and Public Relations Associate

Since graduating from school, I worked as a freelance writer for many years so working remotely is truly all that I’ve ever known. I love working from home because there’s a lot of flexibility in being able to work from pretty much anywhere, which means I can work from places where I feel most comfortable and productive – whether it’s my home office or favorite local coffee shop. Ultimately, working remotely helps me manage my time more effectively, which gives me a lot more time (and energy) to accomplish more throughout the day and to spend more time doing things I enjoy like cooking.

— Joyce Lee, Marketing and Communications Specialist

Alyssa and I started irlabs during the pandemic and that meant remote work from day one. We are proud to have developed a strong remote work culture, underscored by trust and accountability, with our dedicated team. Key to this was leveraging various virtual platforms to ensure we stay connected at all times. Dealing with capital markets and living on the West Coast doesn’t make it any easier. Our days start on East Coast hours (4:30am PT) and end on West Coast hours (5pm PT). However, working from home allows for the flexibility to manage our personal and professional life to make it all happen. As an entrepreneur and a mom with three young kids, working from home has allowed me to ‘do it all’.
