USING YOUR 5 SENSES IN IR
We touch, feel, smell, listen to and observe everything around us. We are creatures who depend on our five senses to convey information and connect with others. This sensory activation is why in-person events leave a more memorable impact on us — our senses are more fully engaged compared to watching someone through a video screen.
Whether you first meet an investor online or in-person:
Try to get a warm introduction
Do your research on an investor — they’ll appreciate it
Make sure your branding is clear, memorable and trustworthy
Trigger positive emotions with your pitches – tell meaningful, impactful stories
Share your products: let your investors touch, taste, hear or feel your product
Send coupons for free samples or services
Share useful branded swag with a personally signed note (with ticker symbol of course)
Send a link to a company video or webinar beforehand so they can use sight and sound to become familiar
Use a jingle at the beginning or end of all videos so the sound becomes connected with the company
For in-person events, make it hassle-free for the investor:
Make the event casual, fun and memorable while focusing on the core informational elements that investors seek
For small meetings, meet the investor whether at their office or favourite spot so they are not inconvenienced
Organize larger events in a convenient, roomy locale for comfort and lower the volume of music so people can talk without shouting
In a Zoomed-out world, how can you engage investors’ five senses?
Smile and be warm and authentic to relax participants
Have at least two speakers to change the pace and vary the voices
Use simple, colourful imagery and intuitive market, operational and financial summaries
